The Cincinnati Reds name 2023 coaching staff

The Cincinnati Reds have announced their 2023 coaching staff. Manager David Bell, pitching coach Derek Johnson, bench coach Freddie Benavides, and J.R. House are all returning – but we knew that already. The rest of the coaching staff will be: Joel McKeithan as the hitting coach, Terry Bradshaw as the assistant hitting coach, Tim LaMonte as assistant hitting coach, integrated performance, Collin Cowgill as first base coach, Matt Tracy as bullpen coach, Kyle Arnsberg as major league coach/coordinator of advance scouting, and Joseph Singley as the bullpen catcher.

Joel McKeithan was with the organization last year and was the assistant hitting coach in both 2021 and 2022 and now he takes over the job as the hitting coach. The 31-year-old was the Detroit Tigers minor league hitting coordinator before joining the Reds organization.

Terry Bradshaw will take over the assistant hitting coach role. Prior to joining the Reds he was with the Kansas City Royals organization for parts of 23 seasons. He had served as their minor league hitting coordination from 2013-2017 before being promoted to the Royals hitting coach in 2018. He served in that role until May of 2022 when he was fired.

They will be backed up by assistant hitting coach, integrated performance, Tim LaMonte. He had been a hitting coach in the Houston Astros farm system for three seasons before taking over as the New York Mets hitting coordinator in 2022.

New first base coach Collin Cowgill had been a manager in the Seattle Mariners farm system for the last two seasons. He had a winning record in both seasons while he was the manager for the Arkansas Travelers.

Matt Tracy joins the organization to take over as the bullpen coach. He had spent the previous three seasons working for the Toronto Blue Jays as a pitching analyst and development coordinator. His pitchers will be working with new bullpen catcher Joey Singley.

Kyle Arnsberg has been with the Reds organization since 2020. He spent that year at the alternate site before joining the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts where he was the catching coach and game planning coach. In 2022 he joined the big league club as an assistant coach. Now he’s also going to be in charge of coordinating the advanced scouting for the club.
