The Beach Volleyball Court Dimensions

The Beach Volleyball court is where the magic of the sport happens! There are certain requirements that must be met when playing on a Beach Volleyball court. In this article, we will tell you everything there is to know about the Beach Volleyball playing field.

The Beach Volleyball court is different from the indoor volleyball court in several ways: the ground on which is played, the dimensions, and the materials.

When Beach Volleyball was gaining popularity, the governing body of the sport, the FIVB, decided that a decrease in the size of the court would fit better the 2-player team size of the sport. Initially, the court had the same dimensions as indoor volleyball.

Indoor Volleyball court dimensions: 9 meters wide and 18 meters long.

However, after this change was implemented, the size of the Beach Volleyball court was reduced.

Beach Volleyball court dimensions: 8 meters wide and 16 meters long.

In our opinion, this decrease in size was a great implementation which made the sport fairer by reducing the amount of area that the two athletes were meant to cover.

When playing with six-people on a Beach Volleyball court, be ready to get into many arguments and be forced to avoid each other. This is exactly why Beach Volleyball is played with 4 players and not 12!

As mentioned previously, modern Beach Volleyball is played on a rectangular 8 m x 16 m court. For those of you who are lazy to do the calculations, it means 8 m x 8 m per team. The game is played on sand, which should be evened out before each match begins to reduce injuries.

The boundaries of the court are indicated by lines that are adjusted before each serve.

The Beach Volleyball Court Lines

The lines that indicate the boundaries of the two sides of the court, are 5 cm wide and indicate what is considered “in” and “out” during a play.

The Beach Volleyball Net

The court is divided with a net that is 8.5 meters long and 1 meter wide. The height of the net varies by gender.

Beach Volleyball Net Height – Males: 2.43 m

Beach Volleyball Net Height – Females: 2.24 m

However, there are certain adjustments for veteran and junior tournaments as well.

The Beach Volleyball net is see-through and is usually made with high-quality Nylon Netting and the cables are made out of durable metal to ensure that the net is supported.

The antennae, which are placed on two sides of the net and are 1.8 m in height and indicate in which area, the ball is allowed to cross the net.

Beach Volleyball Court Price

The cost of the boundaries ranges from approximately $40 to 60$, depending on where you decide to purchase them from. And the cost of a professional net is significantly higher. While you can get a net that costs around $50, it will significantly suffer in quality. Usually a high-quality net costs over $150, but can increase somewhere up to $300 depending on the extra perks that you decide to add.
